GreaterGood South
Africa promotes the idea that effective giving is about more than donations of money. There are many Causes that can benefit greatly from volunteer time and skills, as well as from access to individual or corporate expertise and resources.
For example, an accountant who gives some of her time and expertise to an AIDS orphan care centre so that they can develop a good financial plan is making a wonderful and meaningful contribution that is every bit as necessary and important as a donor who funds the feeding scheme at the centre.
Causes that are locked into a paradigm where they believe that the only worthwhile donation a giver or a company can provide is money are limiting their opportunities to get more of what they need. We encourage all Causes to think creatively and expansively of how their organisation can engage both individuals and businesses in a wider scope of giving.
If you regard every giver as someone with resources of time, expertise, surplus goods, ‘previously loved’ goods, money to donate and money to shop with, you can come up with multiple ways of engaging givers.
Ways that Causes can use GreaterGood South Africa to expand their scope of giving:
-
Provide and maintain your Cause Wishlist – this is your organization’s list of required items, each item under R10 000. A giver may provide an actual item or fund it.
-
-
Submit your quality goods, membership offerings and gift certificates for possible inclusion in the Good Shop.
-
Participate in the Giving Exchange expos and offer the visitors to the expo a range of ways that they can support your organization.
-
Participate in Do It Day and benefit from an organized one-day volunteer effort.
