Do It Day is a national call-to-action campaign that mobilises volunteers to execute specific development projects in just one day during the month of October. 

Do It Day aims to enable Causes to benefit from time and skills that they don’t normally have access to by connecting them with civic and corporate volunteers. 

Engaging volunteer energy is powerful way for development organizations to further their objectives and build their organizational capacity.  Volunteering is also a wonderful and meaningful way for people to make a contribution to development in our country. 

Recent research undertaken by The Centre for Civil Society (CCS), the Southern African Grantmakers’ Association (SAGA) and the National Development Agency (NDA) has indicated that just 17% of South Africans volunteer for a cause.  There is much opportunity here to foster a vibrant culture of volunteerism in South Africa through well-organised, accessible campaigns such as Do It Day.

Volunteering is often considered time-consuming and demanding of a sustained commitment from the volunteer.  A major advantage of Do It Day is that it enables people to make a measurable difference by committing their skills and time for one day only.

How does Do It Day work?

• Causes are called to identify one-day projects that require volunteer skills and person power to achieve their objectives.   Projects may range from developing business and marketing plans to building, renovating and gardening. 
• Verified Do It Day proposals are posted on www.GreaterGoodSA.co.za
• GreaterGood South Africa undertakes a national publicity campaign to raise awareness and direct South Africans to the proposals on the website. Organised volunteer groups are mobilised to match their skills and abilities to projects of their choice.
• Individuals and groups browse the Do It Day proposals on www.GreaterGoodSA.co.za and sign up online to execute the Do it Day projects of their choice.
• The online facility includes the capacity to email Do It Day projects to colleagues, friends and family, so that people can form teams.
• GreaterGood South Africa connects the participating Causes and volunteers to achieve the Do It Day projects in one day in October.
• Causes compile feedback reports that are featured on www.GreaterGoodSA.co.za so that everyone can see the positive impact that was made at community level.
