Women and water in Africa

Monday, April 4th 2011

International NGO, the Women for Water Partnership is helping to prepare a conference in South Africa in August 2011 which will launch the "Decade of women and water in Africa". The organisation is looking for partners in South Africa as well as funding for this initiative.

The Women for Water Partnership is a federation of women's organisations working in over 100 countries. They focus on supporting water management and sanitation projects first by enabling and empowering local women to implement the solutions that are most appropriate for them. This approach takes more time but the results are long-lasting and far-reaching.

As women are typically responsible for most aspects of water collection, it is critical that women are more involved in the decision-making process about how water is managed. This is the aim of the conference as well as the “Decade for women and water in Africa”.

If your organisation is interested in partnering with the Women for Water Partnership for the conference contact , treasurer of the Steering Committee for the Women for Water Partnership.
