On the 28th November 2006 the Foundation Phase of Mary Kihn School visited Monkey Town a dream come true because most children had never seen a real live monkey before.
Grade R to Grade 3 enjoyed a fun and educational day where they learnt a lot and could experience real monkeys in their environment.
The tour guide was excellent and taught them about apes/monkeys and their differences. What they eat, different kinds of monkeys and lots more. We had a teacher to interpret in sign language. They also had some bonus surprises –they could also touch and feel farmyard animals and also jump on a jumping castle and play games at their break.
Learning Outcomes that were achieved.
Learning Area: Language
Learning Outcome 1: Listening
The learners listened to the tour guide when he was showing them the animals and when he explained to them about their habitat and their food.
Learning Area: Arts & Culture
Learning Outcome 4: Use different ways of moving to express
We looked at many animals and the learners looked at how they move in their own environment. They really love imitating the animals especially the monkey.
Learning Area: Mathematics
Learning Outcome 3: Counting
The learners were counting the legs, eyes of the different animals.
Learning Outcome 5: Data Collection
The learners collected data of the different animals/sea creatures and had to put them on a Chart/table.
We all had a wonderful day and experience!
