Greater gain for non profits in South Africa

Tuesday, August 7th 2012

GivenGain and GreaterGood SA

GreaterGood South Africa will merge its online community – Myggsa.co.za – with GivenGain.com in a bid to consolidate the sector and boost giving to non profit organisations in South Africa.

“Non profit organisations are facing very difficult times at the moment,” says GreaterGood’s CEO Bridgit Evans. “The fundraising environment is tough, with more competition for funds and shrinking international aid. By merging our trusted online community with the sophisticated fundraising and multi-currency payment processing tools offered by GivenGain, we hope to significantly increase exposure for non profits as well as help them raise the resources they need to keep delivering services on the ground.”

“We have the greatest respect for the work GreaterGood does supporting and profiling the work of the social development sector in South Africa,” says GivenGain Foundation South Africa CEO, Colin Habberton. “By integrating the Myggsa community with GivenGain, we are pooling our resources and bringing the sector together at a time when it is most needed.”

GivenGain and GreaterGood SA will work closely to support the 1,400 organisations registered on Myggsa.co.za as they move to the GivenGain environment, offering free online fundraising training sessions, webinars and support. The integration will be fully completed within a year.

GreaterGood SA will continue to publish sector news, stories, reports, offers and requests online and to its 12,000 newsletter subscribers and over 6,000 social media followers. “We see our role as curators of social development information and will focus on aggregating news and data to enable South Africans to understand the challenges we face and take action to address these challenges,” says Evans.

As market leaders in online fundraising and donation processing in multiple currencies, GivenGain continuously works on its offering to causes, which currently includes:

  • A website to publish projects & enable individuals to fundraise on the organisation's behalf.
  • An online channel to receive multi-currency donations from a card or SA bank account.
  • Bulk email & SMS communicationtools to send personalised communication to supporters.
  • Integration with social media through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc.
  • An online database management system to host supporter data securely

“Online and individual giving is a massive opportunity,” says Evans. “And now is the time to sign up – if every working South African gave just R10 a month to a good cause, we could solve the current funding crisis.”

“By joining forces, we hope to make it much easier for people to activate for real, sustainable change in their communities,” agrees Habberton. Sign up as an activist now and start making a difference.

If you are a cause and need information or advice about the integration please contact Princess at GreaterGood SA () or GivenGain Support ().
