Hand in Hand's Social Entrepreneurship Programme is a five-day course taught by Professor Kasturi Rangan of Harvard Business School which addresses how social enterprise can empower people, enhance livelihoods and create jobs.
The 2012 course will take place from September 24-28 in Limuru, Kenya (30 minutes by car from Nairobi). It combines classroom teaching with field visits to see the work of both Hand in Hand and the microfinance institution Jamii Bora, and expert Q&As with leading social entrepreneurs such as Christie Peacock of Sidai / Farm Africa. It costs $2,000 for all teaching, accommodation and board - less than a third of the cost of the equivalent course at Harvard Business School.
The first course in 2011 was in Chennai, as a partnership with Hand in Hand India. It was a great success, with participants including founders, CEOs and senior managers from NGOs, MFIs and donors. A number of social entrepreneurs and social investors also came along.
