The Endangered Wildlife Trust, through the Conservation Breeding Specialist Group SA, plays a key role in helping determine the conservation priorities for species facing the threat of extinction. This group runs workshops using specialised computer programmes to run scenarios to predict the outcome of conservation interventions. Currently we need to rely on specialist scientists from overseas to oversee this process, this is costly and does not empower local people. To address this we would like to send three of our scientists to attend the training course to bring these skills back to South Africa.
These skills will impact on the whole conservation industry the Conservation Breeding Specialist Working Group hosts these workshops for other conservation and government agencies.
