Approximate Total Cost: R 150000.00
Viljoenskroon/Rammulotsi is situated in the central part of South Africa in the province of the Free State. It is a small rural town, in a productive cereal growing area. The approximate size of Viljoenskroon District is 1450km squared. The Farming District of Viljoenskroon comprises of 498 Farms, and Vierfontein adding a further 316. The district population is 114,000. Rammulotsi Township has approximately 66,500 residents living in 10115 houses/shacks in and area of 1.7 x 4kms, with the town of Viljoenskroon adding 2,500 people. The surrounding farming district and Vierfontein contribute approximately 45,000 people. The total district population is 114,000. The Unemployment figure is estimated to be between 60 – 62 %. Numbers of HIV and Aids infected and affected Orphans, malnourished children and children at risk, continue to escalate. HIV and Aids has made a bad situation worse, increasing poverty and the destruction of family life. Some children are patients; others are referred to Hospice by Hospitals, clinics, doctors and primary carers, neighbours and Social Workers. Many of our children are orphaned and HIV positive, perhaps living with extended family members who do not have the means to provide for these children. In 2002 Hospice cared for 22 children in the newly built Davida Children’s Hospice. By the end of 2003, 50 OVCS attended the Day Care Hospice. In 2004, 54 children between 3 months and 6 years were registered at the centre for day care. Children are taxied to and from the centre daily, 5 days per week. The Davida Day Care Hospice provides a safe, stimulating environment, where the medical condition is monitored, early detection of opportunistic infections with appropriate action taken, nutritional needs are met, bereavement counselling provided and school readiness programmes are in place. 6 Ladies for the disadvantaged community are trained by Ntataise Trust in the Pre-educational programme care for the children daily, with a further 2 ladies to receive training in 2006. The Management committee for the day centre comprises of 6 Ladies – 3 primary carers and 3 carers. Each child is allocated a Home Based Carer, who visits daily to assess and monitor the home environment, and help to access Government Grants. 193 orphans and vulnerable children between 0 and 18 years receive Home Based Care and a Care Giver visits each child daily, by nursing-staff. Within the 7 – 18 yr. old group there are 10 Child Headed Households. Food parcels are provided at least once a month, as well as clothing on a needs basis. We need to develop these childrens' skills for them to be able to generate an income whent they are no longer on our programmes in other words, when they have finished Matric, they must be able to do something to have an income. We need to develop the skills of these orphans and vulnerable children so that once they are no longer on our programme (after matriculation), they will be self sustainable. Entrepreneural, Carpentry, Basic Computer Skills, Sewing, Gardening etc.
