After school Arts/Culture and Sports programme for the youth
Cause: Community Action towards a Safer Environment (CASE)
Approximate Total Cost: R 5000.00
Province: Western Cape

CASE has started a programme for children after school which is very well-attended. It just keeps growing.  They also get soup and bread at the programme because many of them don’t have enough food at home.

There is a real need for these children to have something to do and somewhere to go after school. There is nothing for them to do on most days. This is when they get involved in all the wrong things like gangs and drugs.  We need something positive for the teenagers too.

We are currently developing a programme which also has a lifeskills aspect but is focused on developing the talents that so many of these young people have. We would like to have an after school Arts/Culture and Sports programme for the youth. However, we need it to be run by professionals who can train up young people in the community to take over from them when they are ready. Activities we would like to run are dancing, singing, drama, music, soccer, cricket, netball, art and photography, writing.
