Sarfat’s mission is to empower people to develop their potential, to the benefit of themselves, their families and community, through development projects and programmes in the under resourced community of Bloekombos.

Sarfat is a non-profit organisation which focuses on development in Bloekombos, an underdeveloped and under-resourced RDP-neighbourhood on the eastern border of Cape Town. Sarfat initiates and manages development projects in cooperation with committees from the community. Residents from all ages benefit by the work.

 

Bloekombos was a previously disadvantaged community until the first houses were built in 1998 according to the government’s Reconstruction and Development Programme. When the second phase was completed in 2001, more than 5000 RDP houses in total were built. The community has a clinic, two primary schools and a secondary school. There are high levels of unemployment and poverty in the community.
