Variety International was formed in 1928 in the United States when a group of eleven businessmen in the entertainment industry, who had formed a social club called The Variety Club, decided to help a baby girl who was abandoned at the Sheridan Theatre.
Variety pledged that their mission from that day would be to help children in need. The baby was their first challenge , now over 70 years later, there are a total of 54 Variety Clubs worldwide.
Variety International is a membership organization whose Head Office is based in New York. It is an international children’s charity with a network of Tents around the world including the USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Israel, Mexico, Jersey (Channel Islands), France, Barbados, the Netherlands and many more.
These Founding Members comprise the Board of Trustees who jointly volunteer their time, talent and skills to raise funds. Patrons of the Club are Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Dr Ali Bacher and Governor Titi Mboweni and our President is Dali Tambo.
Variety is registered in South Africa as a non-profit organization and has Public Benefit Organisation status.
