We look after about 250 orphaned and vulnerable children mainly of school going age in Alexandra (306 on the register). We positively affect the lives of at least 1200 people in the community we serve. We feed, clothe, look after the medical and social needs of the orphans and their extended families where need be. Our social worker assists with social needs and ensures that all the children are registered at a school and are attending school.

We are now 3 years old and still a grass roots community based organisation caring predominantly for Children orphaned by HIV Aids in Alexandra Township, Johannesburg, Gauteng. We are presently completing our second  set of  financial audit papers. 
 
These children either live with extended families in Alexandra who give them shelter due to economic and social pressures cannot feed, clothe and educate these youngsters or they live in child headed or young adult headed house holds.  We have access to the old age Phutadichaba Centre on 17th Avenue Alexandra but operate from 2 shacks behind this on 16th Avenue in Alexandra.

 

We are community based.  We have 32 community volunteers, 21 of whom receive a monthly stipend (not enough to be called a salary).  These people work day in and day out for the children, elderly and sick. We have no office and thus no administration overheads. The directors on the board of our organization work behind the scenes as volunteers in their spare time. The key to the project and the member of the community is totally committed to the children and the project and is the only board member to receive a small salary. Our social worker has been sponsored by a corporate for the last two years.
