The Villa of Hope, as a social upliftment and development initiative, has as its focal area the provision of the superior care to those children who require alternative or foster care due to abuse, neglect, abandonment, and children that have been affected or infected by HIV and AIDS or other ill circumstances.
The initiators of this project became aware of an increase in circumstances of abuse and neglect involving children in the community of Eldorado Park and its surrounding areas. They felt a need to provide a service, which would help decrease or alleviate the strains on the social services as well as on the victims and their families.
The Villa has acquired a property from Johannesburg Water on a twenty-year leasehold. The property is domiciled at Cavendish Road, Olifantsvlei, Nancefield, Eldorado Park. It has 25 houses which were previously the dwellings of the employees of Johannesburg Water. The property and most of the buildings are in a state of disrepair and the majority is uninhabitable.
Vacant sections of the property have been earmarked for the development and construction of sports facilities, community gardens and crop production. It also boasts of an Olympic size swimming pool and clubhouse that is also in need of repair.
