The Chaeli Campaign
Mission Statement
The Chaeli Campaign started by children for children. Although it is administered by adults, it is powered by kids - both the vision and empathy of the original committee, and also the needs of the often unseen children with disabilities. Our goal is to treat each disabled child as if he or she is Chaeli, and to ensure that the aid we give is tailor-made to each individual's need.
Executive Summary

The Chaeli Campaign's main objective being to mobilise the minds and bodies of South African children with disabilities. We are unique as we are the only Non Profit Organisation in SA to be founded by children. In our first year we have generated R400 000 as a part-time, volunteer-driven organisation, which has enabled us to help 46 children become more independent. Most of our funds have been self-generated and through individual donations. We are now ready (with our first set of financial statements and a powerhouse business plan) to approach corporates for funding. Our three main projects (details in next section), are reflected here with approximate budgets per annum, as the number of children involved in each project at any given time differs from region to region. Charity With A Face, we will form partnerships with 40 main stream schools who will raise funds for 40 disabled children's mobility aids, whilst becoming more aware of the needs of these disabled children, mobilising the body.

This will involve the implementation of a physiotherapy programme, a communication programme and a community awareness or education programme. The number of disabled children made to feel more comfortable in their bodies and more included in their commuinities could range from 14 to 30 children per community. The ripple effect of how this would affect family life and community involvement is immeasurable.  Mobilising the Mind Leadership programme - Each disabled leader would be supported in a leading main stream school in a different way, dependant on his or her disability. This would include facilitator, special equipment, physiotherapy, special aids, laptop and computer.

The Chaeli Campaign Celebration Banquet
What a night. The weather was fab and the guests were gorgeously decked out in penguin suits and ball gowns. Erin and Tarryn wore sophisticated black dresses, with Chaeli resplendent in her purple ball gown. It's super that the entire feel of the evening being a celebration of the first year of an organisation started by children was emphasised by the bright outfits worn by Justine and Chelsea. And although Chaeli wore a magnificent ballgown, she refused to wear shoes because she had sprained her ankle - that helped too. It was all good.

At the Place of Need ...
Zelda and Chaeli met Jacques in the shopping parking area where he is a parking attendent. He and his wife fled Rwanda about 6 years ago, and have two children.

Leona Goes to School
We recently gave our first wheelchair to a child outside the borders of SA, Leona Chanengeta from Chinhoyi in Zimbabwe. Leona has been going to school every day with her newfound independance! Previously she could only go when her aunt felt well enough to carry her on her back.

Ladies Mile Grand Prix
A huge highlight from last year was our first ever Grand Prix held on Ladies Mile Road, Bergvliet. Scholtz and Kitty from Bergvliet Kwikspar were most amazing in helping us in any way that they could - a true community store run by people with heart!
