Greetings!

Every year on the 15th of May, the United Nations observes the International Day of Families. It is an opportunity for all of us to reflect on the importance attached to families as the first circles of societies rippling out into the wider world.

In the family nest, we first realise our own humanity, and first make sense of the humanity of others. No wonder then that the UN Declaration from the Special Summit on Children, September 2001 states: "All institutions of society should respect and provide protection and assistance to parents and families so that children can grow and develop in a safe, stable and supportive environment."

www.GreaterGoodSA.co.za is commemorating the International Day of Families by celebrating the work of one of our registered NPOs, The Parent Centre. It is an opportunity for us to highlight that www.GreaterGoodSA.co.za is far more than a funding portal because The Parent Centre is one of the many South African NPOs who give out their substantial energy and expertise to the general public.

The Parent Centre promotes positive parenting and actively builds the capacity of parents, caregivers and teachers. By supporting people with children, The Parent Centre encourages the well-being and self-esteem of both child and parent/caregiver. In this way, they work to stem the rising tide of child abuse, victimisation and neglect. The Parent Centre enables the establishment of loving, nurturing familial environments that ultimately strengthen communities and society.

With twenty-three years of dedicated work behind them, The Parent Centre is rich in experience and expertise. You can access this knowledge and support through the Parenting Pages

This month we have made a number of The Parent Centre articles available on the site including topics such as '10 Things Parents Do Right', 'Back In Charge', 'Being Together', 'Teens Move in a Pack' and 'Mother-Baby Bonding'. You can also email any personal parenting queries via www.GreaterGoodSA.co.za and an expert from The Parent Centre will respond to you directly.

You can further the valuable work of The Parent Centre by giving a gift of support to your family members and friends who are parents and caregivers. What better way to honour a mother on Mother's Day or celebrate the birth of a new baby.
