GreaterCapital is a non profit company that provides consulting services to clients looking for development solutions that have a meaningful and sustainable impact on social and environmental challenges in Africa. Started in 2005, GreaterCapital is a highly recognised and influential player in the African development sector. The GreaterGood South Africa Trust is a public benefit organisation that mobilises resources for, and undertakes advocacy on behalf of the non profit sector in South Africa.

We have worked with over 100 organisations consisting of foundations, NGOs, public sector institutions, civil society organisations, asset managers, corporate social investment divisions and social enterprises. We have helped to raise over R70 million in development funding for other organisations. We are looking to appoint a Managing Director to lead and take responsibility for the future growth of both organisations. The successful applicant will oversee our work in impact investing, strategy consulting, grant management and NGO communications to a diverse range of clients.

You are:

An experienced leader with a passion for tackling developmental problems. You are a passionate, committed self-starter with experience in a leadership position, a passion for international development, and an entrepreneurial spirit. You know how to get the best out of a diverse team, have a strong focus on results, and know how to adapt to the unique demands of each client. You are looking for an opportunity to grow a business and build a brand. Your integrity is beyond reproach. It is likely, though not essential, that you have a strong network in the NGO, corporate and development finance sectors.

The role:

The successful applicant will report directly to the Board of Directors and Trustees. As the Managing Director of the organisation, you will be responsible for:

Working with the management team and board to guide and execute the strategic direction of the organisation
Leading a small, dynamic team of experienced researchers and consultants
Building the brands and growing the enterprise
Business development and building strategic partnerships
Representing the organisation publicly through speaker engagements and advocacy
Financial oversight, managing forward cash projections and maintaining solvency and liquidity within the organisation
Team professional development
Project delivery oversight

Qualifications and attributes:

A track record of successful leadership
Prior management experience, preferably in a consulting environment
An MBA or a Masters degree in another relevant field preferable
A deep understanding of socio-economic issues and social innovation
At least 10 years of work experience
Strong networks and a proven ability to win new business
Excellent business skills and a thorough understanding of finances in social enterprises
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; the ability to work in additional languages spoken in Africa will be an advantage
Knowledge of innovations such as impact investing, social enterprise, social impact bonds and social franchising an advantage
Historically disadvantaged individual preferred, though this is not a constraining factor
